What is Ijazaah?
The linguistic meaning of the word Ijaazah is permission. After applying this word to the recitation of the Qur’an, it becomes a term that means that a certified and qualified Quran teacher who holds an Ijaazah (Quraan Academy) testifies that his student has excelled and mastered Quran recitation without making any mistakes in pronunciation and tajweed. It also means that the student is certified and eligible to test and evaluate others’ recitations and give them an Ijaazah. In other words, An Ijaazah is a symbol of merit from a qualified teacher to his student of being able to recite the Quran without mistakes and the eligibility to grant others Ijaazah after evaluation of their recitation.
